Can you date someone if they’re in AA?

 

Yes absolutely. If you are sober as well and looking to meet sober singles, I would look for a sober dating app or a sober app that has that feature. If you are not sober, to give you a bit of context from the other side, a person who is dating in recovery has to be very careful if they are dating a person who is not sober and they do not have a strong program or are in early recovery. If they don’t have a problem, and have some sobriety under their belt, I would say it's fine, but just be mindful that someone who lives an alcohol-free life is different than someone in AA, as drinking is a matter of life and death for someone in recovery so I would stay away from asking them why they can’t control their drinking, why can’t they drink in moderation, things like that. An alcoholic cannot drink no matter what and that is something you need to accept.
